Abrecaminos: Finding a Way

TYCA-Pacific Northwest invites presentation proposals for its 2005 conference in Yakima, Washington.  To capture the Hispanic influence of our valley, as well as the essence of our work in two-year colleges, we have selected the conference theme, Abrecaminos: Finding a Way.  In Spanish, abrir means to open; a camino is a path or way. Abrecaminos then are trailblazers, those who open the way.

We welcome proposals for presentations, panels, and roundtable discussions that explore the ways our work as writing teachers intersects with the work of other educators, the new trails we blaze in our classrooms, the various barriers that we and our students face, and how we help students who are trying to find their ways in and through the academy.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the Lisa S. Ede Outstanding Teacher Award. One adjunct and one full-time English instructor at two-year colleges will receive $500. We are also accepting applications for our Regional Executive Committee. We will be looking for Publication Editors and members-at-large at our fall conference.

Please submit proposals to Carolyn Calhoon-Dillahunt or Mark Fuzie by June 3, 2005.
