How many comma splices have you marked this term? Memorized Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" yet? Forgotten more about rhetorical analysis than most ever knew? Term after term, student after student, we are asked to educate - a word that derives from the Latin "educare," meaning to nourish, to rear, to bring up. We choose this life because of the special benefits that it brings, but how do we, as educators, nourish and sustain ourselves, our students, our institutions, and our communities? Where do we find opportunities for renewal? And how do we continue growing and encourage growth in others?

TYCA-PNW invites your participation in our 2009 conference in Portland, Oregon on the theme of Sustainability and Renewal . Please join us as we examine ways to sustain and renew ourselves, our students, and our institutions on October 9-10 in Portland, Oregon.

  • Teaching with integrity
  • Retention strategies: sustaining student commitment
