Sustainability & Renewal:
Revitalizing Composition and Literature in the College Classroom
How many comma splices have you marked this term? Memorized Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" yet? Forgotten more about rhetorical analysis than most ever knew? Term after term, student after student, we are asked to educate - a word that derives from the Latin "educare," meaning to nourish, to rear, to bring up. We choose this life because of the special benefits that it brings, but how do we, as educators, nourish and sustain ourselves, our students, our institutions, and our communities? Where do we find opportunities for renewal? And how do we continue growing and encourage growth in others?
TYCA-PNW invites your submissions on the theme of Sustainability and Renewal for our 2009 conference in Portland, Oregon. Please join us as we examine ways to sustain and renew ourselves, our students, and our institutions on October 9-10 in Portland, Oregon.
We are excited about this conference topic and hope you are too. We are most interested in interactive, roundtable sessions that will balance academic study with practical teaching strategies which can be implemented immediately.
Those submitting proposals for our 2009 conference by March 1, 2009 will be entered for a chance to win a two-night stay at the CCCC's convention hotel, the Hilton San Francisco, March 12th-13th. Final submission deadline is May 1st, 2009.
